Langkawi Island / Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia

The Magical Langkawi

Why Langkawi Island was on my list?

Langkawi island, Pulau Langkawi in local language, is the place for those who seek for natural splendours and I'm proudly one of those :) Langkawi is renowned for being an stunning tropical heaven.

People from all over the world visit this place to catch the glimpse of it's natural beauty. It's a little paradise for beach-lovers and rightly crowned Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah.

Tanjung Rhu Beach

There is long list of things to do in Langkawi but I will suggest at least following:

Getting To Langkawi

To reach Langkawi, you can take a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Perlis which will cost you around 35RM for a decent and comfortable night journey.

On your lucky day you may find flying cheaper or same by AirAsia!

Once in Kuala Perlis, catch a ferry to Langkawi which will cost you around 20RM and the ferry ride would be of 1 1/2 hour.

In Langkawi, don't rely much on public transportation!

Although you can find taxi easily most of the time however there are two issues which you need to keep in mind.
- First, most likely they will over charge you if you don't have pre-booked taxi with you.
- Second, they call day off bit early in evening so it might be hard to get taxi after 7 PM.

Suggested way would be either to hire a taxi for all tourist places at the time of entering the Langkawi port or rent a car itself.

However the option which I liked, if you are not travelling with children, rent a motor bike. Renting a bike is the cheapest option. It should not cost you more than 20RM per day where one full tank of gas given by the renting company itself.

We reached Kuala Perlis and found ourselves surrounded by the hotel booking agents at 5 AM! The one which we booked finally was Sunset Beach Resort. The hotel lived upto it's name, the sunset view was Amazing! The Room costed as around RM200.

Food and Drink

Like else where in Malaysia, you will find a Mamak food stall near to all tourist places. Most of them serve south indian style vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

But for me having breakfast right on sandy beach was something I never experienced before! At night fall if you wish to have devil's drink well you will fall in love with this place. This paradise becomes more than a paradise when you come to know it's only duty free port in Malaysia! what does it mean? Well in short, you can have 3 beer bottles at the price of 1. WOW! that's amazing isn't it:) So if you are fan of devils' drink and great beaches, Langkawi is the place!

Don't forget to fill your bag at the harbor itself because that's the place where you will find it cheapest not only on this island but in entire Malaysia:)

If you wish to try Langkawi nightlife then top bars are situated around Kok, Tengah and Cenang beaches.
Mind you this island tourism is not just about beaches and beers but for shopping also. Since Langkawi shopping is duty free, you can save hell of money on expensive items.

So what are you waiting for get ready for your own tour de Langkawi!

Happy travelling...
