Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

A cultural melting point - Kuala Lumpur

Why Kuala Lumpur was on my list?

Ever since I saw Malaysian icon of prosperity "Petronas Twin Towers" during 1998 commonwealth game telecast, I was longing to visit them. They are truly amazing and look more beautiful during night time when they illuminate.

The skywalk, the connecting bridage between both building, gives spectacular view (Yes, you can go there!) of the entire city.

Initially these towers were the only impression of Malaysia I had but later when I studied more about this country more restless I became to travel there.

Kuala Lumpur, the pulse of Malaysia, is truly a tourist's paradise! It got everything a tourist could wish from top class food, budget to five star accommodation and so many places to visit.

If you miss this city from your travelling itinerary, you can safely assume you have missed alot!

WARNING! Keep your girl friend or wife in check during shopping, this place can drive them crazy :)

Kuala Lumpur

Things to do in Kuala Lumpur:
There is a big list of things to do in kl or what to do in kl but to cut it short you should at least pay a visit to the following places:

Transportation

Kuala Lumpur public transportation system is quite efficient and good enough to take you around.

To reach KL, you got three options from the KLIA (Kuala Lumpur international Airport):
- The cheapest one is airport bus service, it will cost you around 10RM. Buses are neat & clean too.
- The most expensive one is to take a taxi, it will cost you 80RM at least. Don't forget to include night charges if you hire taxi in between 10 PM to 6 AM.
- The best way is to take a super fast train called KLIA express which will cost you around 35RM and will only take around 35 mins to KL.

From LCT airport also you can catch a bus direct to the kuala lumpur center however until now no train service it provided from the low cost terminal to the city.

Once in KL, transportation should not be your major concern. All major tourist places can be reached using at least one the following public transportation system:
- Monorail service
- Lightrail service (LRT)
- KTM rail service
- Hop on hop off bus

Hop on hop off is the best option to visit all major tourist places. LRT can be used to go to China town and Little India.

Monorail covers mainly the central KL. If one wishes to travel to Batu Caves then catch KTM from KL Sentral (near to little India/Brickfields).

Note: Weather in Kuala Lumpur gets really bit hot, make sure you carry your shade, cap and water with you.

Stay

Finding a budget hotel in Kuala Lumpur should not be an issue for any one. There are so many hotels available all around.

We took a room in Bukit Bintang area. If you wish to save more go to the china town.

If you plan to stay longer then there are condos which can be rented for two weeks or so for around 1000RM.

Food

Malaysia got food for everyone! No one goes hungry blaming the taste of food. Doesn't matter you are vegetarian or not.

You will find whatever you wish for.  If you don't want to search around, take a walk in Bukit Bintang area you will find Indian, Arabic, Chinese, Western or whatever your taste is!

Malaysians are not much of fan of cooking at home, so you don't need to worry for food, they all eat out :) And who won't if you get such a mouth watering menu :)

For the night livers, there is world of night clubs in Kuala Lumpur. If you wish to visit most famous club in Malaysia then it would be beach club kuala lumpur, situated in middle of Raja Chulan and Bukit Nanas monorail stations. I am pretty sure you will like nightlife in kuala lumpur:)

Time to grab a map of kl and hit the road!

Happy travelling...

  1. Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia. It offers a lot of attractions for visitors. You have shared enough information about this city. The attractions are amazing and attract the attention of all visitors. I’m a tourist and visited many times in Kuala Lumpur. Last time I visited there after complete the yellowstone tour package from san Francisco with my family. I really inspired to see the attractions there. The Petronas Tower, Aquaria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park and Kuala Lumpur tower are the most famous attraction in this city.
